3/1 Redman Foundation rolls out honors

WATSONVILLE — The Redman Foundation is remembering six Pajaro Valley residents who enriched the local community during their lives.

The foundation plans to permanently display the Pajaro Valley Heritage Memorial Roll of Honor, which contains the names of these residents, on a wall at the Redman House.

Renovating and preserving the dilapidated but historic mansion on the west side of Highway 1 near Riverside Drive is the foundation’s primary mission.

The inductees to the Pajaro Valley Heritage Memorial Roll of Honor are:

Don Gardiner, a developer whose Pajaro Valley projects included affordable apartments, commercial buildings and retail space.

David Gradone, a longtime production manager at S. Martinelli & Co., whose community service included going through the rubble after the 1989 earthquake to salvage architectural details from Watsonville’s historic buildings.

Norman Hernandez ran the collectors exhibit at the annual Santa Cruz County Fair for many years.

John Kane, a local real-estate broker whose lifelong community involvement included serving on the Watsonville Chamber of Commerce board.

Bill Sambrailo, who, as head of Watsonville-based Sambrailo Packaging Co., developed a new berry container that revolutionized
agricultural packaging.

Bruce G. Woolpert, Graniterock president, Santa Cruz County planning commissioner and Watsonville Chamber of Commerce
official.

To be considered for the honor roll, candidates must be longtime Pajaro Valley residents who have died but were involved in the betterment of the community through public service or private enterprise.
